Description

Through the course of this videotape the artist methodically follows the steps to Glamour Magazine’s “48 Hour Beauty Blitz”. Through an unemotional approach to the magazine’s “relaxing weekend” the artist examines the overwhelming commodity of cultural ideas surrounding beauty and glamour and the superficiality of cultural representations of female relaxation and psychological health. As the artist moves step by step through the “beauty blitz” she reveals its incompatibility with everyday life. The soundtrack introduces a darkly sarcastic undertone through its use of popular music while pointing to the weight of cultural expectations and the impossibility of their fulfillment.
